Read the manual, brick by brick.

How Bricknamic turns a repo into bricks, what each color means, and how to hand the whole job to an agent, all on one page.

01

Overview

Bricknamic turns a project's Bill of Materials into a 3D brick model. The project itself is the base plate, and everything it depends on snaps on top. Each brick is one part, and its color is that part's license.

Base plate The project itself
Body brick Imported package
Glued piece Vendored code

Build a model

  1. 1
Paste a repo Use owner/repo or any GitHub URL. We'll strip .git and extra path segments for you.
  2. 2
Build Bricknamic finds the repo's package on npm, PyPI, crates.io, or Go, maps its runtime dependencies, and looks up each license. Other repos fall back to GitHub's dependency graph or a scan of Python and JS/TS imports. The viewer opens at 100%.
  3. 3
Explore the model Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom. Click any brick to see which package it is and what license it carries.
03

Read the colors

Pick a filter chip to keep one license family in focus while the other bricks fade. Turn on Explode to pull the model apart layer by layer and see where each part sits.

permissive
Few restrictions. Keep the copyright and license notices when you ship it.
weak copyleft
Obligations usually stay with this package. Modifying it, or statically linking it under some licenses, may require sharing its source.
copyleft
Distributing this package may require you to release the source of code combined with it.
unknown
We couldn't detect a license for this part. Check where it came from before you ship it.

Share & embed

The Share button in the viewer gives you three options: a link that keeps your current filter and selected part, an iframe with just the model, and a static card for READMEs that block iframes.

Ask an agent

Let a browser agent do the building. Hand it this prompt and it will run the build in Bricknamic and report back with a license summary.

PROMPT
Ask your agent
Use Bricknamic (https://bricknamic.com) to review the licenses in the GitHub repo vercel/next.js.

1. Open https://bricknamic.com/?repo=vercel%2Fnext.js and click Build. Wait for the viewer to open.
2. Use the license filters and the Parts panel to summarize the part count by license (permissive / weak copyleft / copyleft / unknown). Flag any copyleft parts that need attention.
3. End with the viewer link: https://bricknamic.com/viewer?repo=vercel%2Fnext.js
  1. 1 Copy the prompt above. Change the repo field and the prompt updates with it.
  2. 2 Paste it into a browser agent that can open pages and click, such as Claude in Chrome.
  3. 3 The agent runs the build in Bricknamic and comes back with a license summary and a viewer link.
